Rockwell B-1A and B-1B

B-1A

X-Plane 8.50
runs fine in 8.60

Rockwell International Corporation B-1 prototype supersonic nuclear bomber, retrospectively designated B-1A.
Flies very well in x-plane 8.50, a version for 8.60 will come separately.
Extensively researched including use of the real B-1 flight manual, it should be noted that actual performance figures for this amazing aircraft are still classified information.
Two versions in the current download allow reproduction of the first aircraft with long nose boom, and the second aircraft with short nose probe. The fourth aircraft with large dorsal spine and desert camouflage will be available soon.
Included in the download package is a full 26-page flight manual in pdf format.
Personally, the instrument panel has given me the most satisfaction.

This x-plane differs drastically from the B-1B included with the x-plane package. From the realistic instru, ment panel to the gentle curves of the fuselage object, this is a quite different aircraft altogether.

The instrument panel is an accurate representation of the real one. To my knowledge, the only x-plane panel with tape instruments of its kind, working in the correct sense.

Landing gear is customised and retracts into 3D bays, weapons bays are also 3D.

Of course, you can drop the 24 SRAM misslies. The odd lighting effects on the bay doors have now been corrected.

The B-1A aircraft number 4 featured various design changes from the previous prototypes. The escape module was replaced with ejection seats, and defensive systems were housed in a dorsal spine (the only B-1 to have this) and a more rounded tail. The tail also began to sprout the largest vortex generators on any aircraft. It was painted in desert comoflage scheme. This version is equipped with conventional bombs (24x mk 84 2,000 lb, from Nick Gaston's collection).

Brief History

Rockwell International Corporation B-1. Four-man, four-engined, swing-wing supersonic low and high altitude penetration nuclear bomber. Four B-1 prototypes were flown before cancellation of the project. Later resurected as the B-1B, evolving into a slower, heavier aircraft, the prototypes were renamed B-1A. Much more history and data in the accompanying flight manual.
